Hotels provide sleeping accommodations on a room/suite basis and feature a front desk for customer service. Each guest room must have a private bath and/or shower. Many hotels have additional facilities like a pool, exercise room or sauna. Hotels are usually located near other facilities.

Bed and Breakfasts provide short-term lodging in private homes or small buildings converted for this purpose. Usually occupied by the owner or operator, Bed and Breakfasts contain no more than six rooms. A continental or full-breakfast must be offered and included in the room rate.

Home Accommodations are short-term lodging in private homes occupied by the owner. Home accommodators are similar to bed & breakfasts except that they do not offer breakfast.

Cabins, Cottages and Chalets are often located in isolated areas. Accommodation providers in this category must offer a minimum of three self-contained, independent units on a single plot of land. These units cannot be attached to any other structures or to each other. They must be furnished and provide cooking facilities.

A lodge is a detached building consisting of a group of single room units. A central, common area is often used for guest activities and/or relaxing. Lodges are not located next to other buildings and are no more than three storeys high. Lodges are most often located in isolated areas.

A resort is usually a ho with added attractions on the premises, making it a self-contained vacation experience. Resorts cater mainly to vacationers or tourists (as opposed to overnight travellers). The site of a resort is usually large, and there may be a beach, lake, ocean, as well as other attractions and activities such as a golf course, tennis courts, etc. Structured activities are usually offered, with or without supervision.

Vacation Homes are fully furnished houses/condominiums that come with full kitchens and laundry facilities. These homes are available for rent for at least six months out of the year.

Backcountry accommodation relates to any accommodation that does not have road access. This means that guests must walk, ski, hike or fly in.

Hostels are budget accommodations with at least some dormitory-style beds and/or shared bathrooms. Private rooms/bathrooms may be offered in addition to this.

Campgrounds provide space and/or hookups for tents, tent trailers, recreational vehicles, or 5th wheels.

Jasper’s conference accommodation providers must offer meeting space and guest rooms for a minimum of 50 people. Catering and presentation equipment such as a podium, projector, microphone, etc are required.

Guest Ranches provide accommodations, meals and activities on a working ranch, which are offered as an inclusive package. Activities may include horseback riding, trail and pack trips, cattle drives and everyday maintenance of the ranch and its livestock.
